Tetjuschi ( Russian Тетюши ; Tatar Тәтеш Təteş ) is a city in the Republic of Tatarstan ( Russia ) with 11,596 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located about 180 km south of the republic capital Kazan on the right, steep bank of the Volga, which is dammed up here to form the Kuibyshev reservoir .

Tetjuschi is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name .

The nearest railway station is located at a 45 kilometers west located Buinsk on the track (Kasan-) sviyazhsk - Ulyanovsk - Syzran - Saratov (Station Bua ).

history

The place was established in 1574–1578 (according to other sources already 1555–1557) as a sentry post Tetjuschskaja Zastava , probably named after the name of a Tatar feudal lord.

In 1781 the town charter as the administrative center of a district ( Ujesds ) was granted under its current name . Until the end of the 19th century, the city developed mainly as a trading center.

Culture and sights

The Cathedral of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan ( Собор Казанской Божией Матери Sobor Kazanskoi Boschijei Materi ; originally Trinity Cathedral ) from 1773 has been preserved in Tetyushi. The city also has a local museum.

economy

In addition to a number of companies in the food industry, Tetjuschi has a supplier plant for the Kazan helicopter factory as well as companies in the wood processing and building materials industries.
