history

At the place of today's Almetjewsk there was a Tatar village called Almet (Russian form Almetjewo ), which also gave the city its name, since the 17th century . A mosque from the 1870s has been preserved from this village to this day. The village became the administrative seat of a Rajon on August 10, 1930.

Modern Almetyevsk was one of the youngest cities in Tatarstan in the early 1950s as a workers' settlement near an oil field . On March 25, 1952, this place received the status of an urban-type settlement and on November 3, 1953 city rights. Almetjewsk already had over 50,000 inhabitants by 1960 and passed the city mark of 100,000 inhabitants in the mid-1970s .
