Bogatyje Saby ( Russian Богатые Сабы ; Tatar Байлар Сабасы , Baylar Sabası ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia with 7671 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place is about 90 km as the crow flies east-northeast of the republic capital Kazan on the river Saby in the catchment area of ​​the right-hand Kama tributary Mjoscha .

Bogatyje Saby is the administrative center Rajons Sabinski and seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Bogatyje Saby, also owns the nearly five kilometers to the south village Srednije Saby to.

history

The year of foundation of the place is unknown, but like other towns along the Saby River, it was probably built between the 14th and the beginning of the 16th century. From the 18th century at the latest, Bogatyje Saby was a regionally important handicraft and trading village, known for its pottery (Russian bogaty and Tatar bay means “rich”).

On August 10, 1930 Bogatyje Saby became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajon. In 2004 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.

Bogatyje Saby is located on the regional road 16K-1332 coming from Kazan via the neighboring district of Tjuljatschi to the south-west , which ends about 20 km north in Shemordan . The nearest train station is located there on the Moscow  - Kazan - Yekaterinburg route . The western bypass around Bogatyje Saby is number 16K-1429.
