history
A village at the mouth of the Maktaminka (or Maktama ) was first mentioned in 1746; the place name refers to the location on the river ("Nieder-Maktama"), in contrast to the village of Verkhnyaya Maktama ("Upper Maktama") located about 5 km to the southwest. From 1781 it belonged to the Ujesd Bugulma , which was initially part of the governorship of Ufa , was assigned to the Orenburg governorate in 1796 and finally to the newly formed Samara governorate in 1851 .
In 1920 Nizhnyaja Maktama came to the canton of Bugulma of the newly formed Tatar ASSR and with the introduction of the Rajon structure in 1930 to the Almetjewski rajon. The place took off after oil deposits were discovered in the area in the early 1950s . An oil and gas refinery (today Tatneftegaspererabotka, abbreviation for "Tatar oil and gas processing") was built south of the place from 1953 , and in 1966 Nizhnyaya Maktama received the status of an urban-type settlement.
