Innopolis ( Russian Иннополис ; Tatar Иннополис Innopolis ) is a city in Russia that was founded in 2012 with a strong IT orientation and has a special economic zone. It is known as "Russia's Silicon Valley".

It is a satellite city of Kazan , the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia, and is located about 23 kilometers west of its center as the crow flies on the opposite, right-hand side of the Volga . Innopolis forms a municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) in Verkhneuslonski district . At the beginning of 2019, the smallest city in Russia had 147 residents with main residence registered there, which, however, included several thousand residents with secondary residences. 155,000 people are expected to live and work here by 2035, half of them IT specialists.

The foundation stone of Innopolis as the future location of a large development center for innovative technologies with a special economic zone and the University of Innopolis took place on June 9, 2012, the official name was given in April 2013, and the place has had city rights since January 1, 2015.

Special economic zone

The city's special economic zone is located in a seven-story office complex (glass cylinder shape), which is next to the university building. The zone is intended to offer the resident companies favorable conditions for successful business operations, above all significant tax advantages.

Infrastructure

The first IT university in Russia is located in Innopolis. The city also has a school, an IT high school, a kindergarten, a fitness center and a polyclinic, as well as a supermarket, a restaurant and a bar.

The Innopolis University was the first IT university in Russia and offers four master’s courses: Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Software Technology and Cyber ​​Security. The language of instruction is English. More than a hundred companies finance the university and pay for student education. To this end, they undertake to work for one of these companies for a year and a half after completing their studies.
