Nurlat ( Russian Нурлат ; Tatar Норлат Norlat ) is a city in the Republic of Tatarstan ( Russia ) with 32,601 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located about 270 km east of the republic capital Kazan on the right bank of the Kondurtscha , a right tributary of the Sok which flows into the Volga .

Nurlat is administratively directly subordinate to the republic and at the same time the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .

The city is located on the Ulyanovsk - Tschischmy - Ufa railway, which opened in 1914 .

history

In the 19th century, the village of Nurlaty was known in place of the current town . From 1905 onwards, with the construction of the Simbirsk – Bugulma –Tschischmy ( Volga-Bugulma Railway ) railway line, which continued until 1914, a Nurlat station settlement was established .

The station settlement received urban-type settlement status in the 1930s and gradually grew together with the village. In 1961 town charter was granted.

Culture and sights

In the village of Kulbajewo-Marassa (Nurlat district) the Gabdulla-Karijew Museum opened in 1988 , dedicated to the playwright, actor and co-founder of the Tatar national theater Gabdulla Karijew (1886-1920, actually Миңлебай Хәйрулла углugly ) Miulñla углы.

economy

The main economic factor is the oil production in the vicinity of the city by Tatneft ( Nurlatneft area ), TatRITEKneft and Kondurtschaneft . There is also a machine factory and companies in the construction and food industries (sugar factory, meat combine).
