Asnakajewo ( Russian Азнака́ево ; Tatar Азнакай Aznaqay ) is a city in the Republic of Tatarstan ( Russia ) with 34,853 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the Bugulma-Belebeier heights about 380 km southeast of the republic capital Kazan on the Sterli (Stjarle), a left tributary of the Ik, which flows into the Kama .
Asnakajewo is administratively directly subordinate to the republic and at the same time the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
The nearest railway station is Jutasa, 34 km away on the Ulyanovsk - Tschischmy (- Ufa ) line.
history
Asnakajewo emerged as a village in 1762. After the discovery of oil deposits in 1951, a workers' settlement was established, which in 1956 received the status of an urban-type settlement and in 1987 it was granted city rights.

Culture and sights
Asnakajewo has had a local museum since 1999 and the newly built White Mosque (Akmetschet) since 1997 .
Five kilometers from the city is the 334 meter high mountain Chatyrtau.
In the village of Assei , ten kilometers away , is the mausoleum of an ishan from the 19th century.
economy
The main branch of the economy is oil and gas production through Tatneft ( Asnakajewneft area ). There is also vehicle and mechanical engineering ( Neftemasch , supplier for the oil industry) as well as the textile and food industry.
