history

The documented history of the place begins at the beginning of the 17th century when a copper ore deposit was discovered on the Kurminka a few kilometers above the village of Kukmor (later Bolshoi Kukmor) at the present-day settlement of Schiloi Rudnik . Not far from the village, several copper works, called Sawod Kukmor ("Kukmor Plant") or, after the Taischewo settlement, Taischewski Sawod, were built .

The huts were in operation - with an interruption as a result of the Pugachev uprising - until the first half of the 19th century; the last one closed in 1851 after the ore reserves were exhausted. After that, a small factory for the manufacture of copper vessels and dishes was built in its place. By the end of the century, the place, now called Russki Kukmor , became a regional center of trade and handicrafts, for example through the establishment of several manufacturing facilities for footwear, in particular felt boots (Russian " Walenki ").

In 1924 the Moscow – Kazan – Yekaterinburg railway was passed through Kukmor. In 1928 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and on April 27, 2017 the town charter .
