Most of the 1958 election to the United States Senate for the 86th United States Congress took place on November 4th. The election was part of the elections in the United States on that day and it was half-time choice (Engl. Midterm election ) in the center of Dwight D. Eisenhower 's second term. The last election in the state of Maine took place earlier, on September 8th.

The first Senate election in the newly admitted state of Alaska took place on November 25, 1958, in Hawaii on July 28, 1959. Which class the two new senators would belong to, which also determined the length of the first term of office of the new senators drawn after the election.

The 32 Class I seats were up for election, and there were two by-elections for senators who left office prematurely. 13 of these senators belonged to the Democratic Party and 21 to the Republicans . 18 Senators were re-elected or confirmed, 13 Democrats and 5 Republicans. 13 previously Republican seats went to the Democrats, the Republicans could not win a seat from the Democrats. Then there were the two seats in Alaska, which the Democrats also received. This allowed the Democrats to expand their majority from 49 to 64 seats, while the Republicans fell from 47 to 34. After the election in Hawaii, where both parties each appointed one of the new senators, the distribution of seats was 65 to 35.
