Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is an American comedy film from the year 2007 . Directed by Jake Kasdan , who also wrote the script together with Judd Apatow . It is a parody of musicians' biopics such as Walk the Line in particular .

action

The film tells of the life of the fictional musician Dewey Cox from the small community of Springberry in the state of Alabama. Not only is community life arduous enough in the 1940s, the younger of the two Cox brothers, Dewey, stands in the shadow of his more talented brother Nate.

Little Cox caused an accident while playing with Nate, in which his brother's body was cut up by a razor-sharp machete. His father says the wrong child was killed . Dewey is plagued by guilt and falls into a depression, as a result of which he loses his sense of smell.

At the age of 14, Dewey took part in a talent competition with unexpectedly great success and soon afterwards left his parents' house with his new girlfriend Edith. At 15 he already has a child and dreams of a great career as a musician. When he steps in for a famous musician in the nightclub where he works as a cleaning man, he is discovered and lands his first big hit with Walk Hard .

On his tours he meets celebrities like Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley again and again . At one gig, he finally starts smoking marijuana , and from then on he also cheats on his wife Edith with countless young women. When his mother dies while she is dancing to his music, he sinks deeper and deeper into the drug swamp. After an ecstatic appearance, he meets Darlene Madison, with whom he sings a duet. It starts to crackle between the two. They finally get married, but Edith shows up on their wedding night. Both women separate from him. The drug crashes are increasing. He is eventually arrested at 21 for drug possession and underwent rehab. Darlene visits him in rehab and the two find each other again. Dewey became a hippie in 1966 , began a folk career and traveled to India with the Beatles . There he tries LSD and turns completely off. His concept album fails because of his completely absurd ideas, his band and finally his wife leave him.

In another withdrawal, he has a vision of his brother who drives him to start over. However, Dewey suffers from writer's block . He tries to make a comeback on the broadcaster CBS , but the series The Incredible Hulk hits him again and again. He decides to come to terms with his father. However, the latter challenges him to a machete duel and accidentally cuts himself in half. Dying, he forgives his son.

Dewey decides to go home and looks after his 36 children and stepchildren. Darlene, who broke up with Glen Campbell , returns to him and they lead a civil life. As a famous gangsta rapper with a Walk Hard - Sample a hit lands, Cox gets a lifetime award. He is performing live for the first time in 25 years, but dies, as a fade-in announces, three minutes after his performance.
