Walter Renard

Walter Traugott Renard (born May 12, 1904 in Chemnitz ; † March 31, 1994 in Hanover ) was a German mechanical engineer and, as professor of technology in horticulture at the TH Hanover, Rector of the Technical University of Hanover from 1964 to 1966 .

Life

Walter Renard studied mechanical engineering at the TH Dresden from 1924 to 1929 . He then became an assistant at the Agricultural Machinery Institute at the University of Leipzig . From there he moved to Berlin for two years (1936–1937) as head of the Reichsnährstander department . From 1937 to 1945 he held a professorship for agricultural engineering at the University of Leipzig, despite the lack of a doctorate and habilitation . From 1939 to 1940 he was entrusted with the reorganization of the Polish agricultural machinery industry in the Generalgouvernement . During this time he also became a member of the National Socialist Company Cell Organization (NSBO). In 1941 he joined the Second World War as a soldier and in 1945 was taken prisoner by the Americans . After his release, he ran his own engineering office in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) from 1946 to 1949 . In 1949 he was appointed professor for technology in horticulture at the Technical University of Hanover, where he was rector from 1964 to 1966. As director of the institute, Renard devoted himself in particular to greenhouse technology and developed the basics for the DIN 11 536 German standard greenhouse . From 1966 he was a full member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society . In 1972 Renard retired .
