Gerhart Laage

Gerhart Laage (born April 19, 1925 in Hamburg ; † April 21, 2012 ) was a German architect and professor at the University of Hanover , from 1974 to 1975 he was also the rector of the university.

Life

Laage studied from 1948 to 1953 at the Technical University of Braunschweig with Friedrich Wilhelm Kraemer . He then ran an architecture office together with his father Richard Laage .

From 1963 until his retirement in 1992, Laage was professor at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture at the University of Hanover. In 1963 he was awarded a scholarship at the Deutsche Akademie Villa Massimo .

Laage had a childhood friendship with Helmut Schmidt , whom he advised on issues of architecture and urban planning during his time as Federal Chancellor (1974–1982). This also called him to the Friday Society .

From 1960 Gerhart Laage was a member of the board of the Hamburg regional group of the Association of German Architects (BDA) for thirteen years and from 1990 to 1992 President of the Federal Chamber of Architects .

In 2008 he was awarded a Dr.-Ing. PhD .
