Helmut Pfannmüller
Helmut Pfannmüller (born October 1, 1902 in Bad Wimpfen , † November 28, 1977 in Hanover ) was a German civil engineer and, as a professor, Rector of the Technical University of Hanover from 1943 to 1945 .
Life
Helmut Pfannmüller studied civil engineering at the TH Darmstadt from 1920 to 1924 . He then began at the Duisburg steel construction company Harkort and calculated there with others the statics of the Rhine - suspension bridge at Cologne-Mülheim , in the Second World War was destroyed. 1929 he became an assistant at the RWTH Aachen at the Department of Adolf Müllenhoff , where in 1930 his work was an iron To form and calculation pressure belt-bracing doctorate . In October 1932 he joined the NSDAP and quickly made a career at RWTH Aachen University in the following years. He also joined the SA . In 1935 he took part in the leadership course of the National Socialist German Lecturer Association (NSDDB) in Kiel and was trained as a political leader . As a result, he became head of the NSDDB at RWTH Aachen University in 1936. Despite the lack of a habilitation , he received a teaching position for steel construction as early as 1936 through the advocacy of the construction department and his predecessor, Nipper, who was now working in Berlin as NSDDB leader, because his political commitment was valued. As head of the NSDDB, he rather sought confrontation with the teaching staff and put political commitment over academic qualifications. In 1937 he completed his habilitation, but was still only considered a moderate scientist. Rector Grube now tried to praise him for his office. A first attempt to get Pfannmüller a professorship at the TH Darmstadt failed. The second attempt was successful: Pfannmüller was appointed professor to the chair for statics and steel construction at the TH Hannover in 1937. Here, too, his political involvement led to a rapid career: in 1939 he became Lecturer Association Leader of the TH, in 1942 Gaudozenten Association Leader and Vice Rector and finally Rector from 1943 to 1945. Also in 1943 he was licensed as a test engineer for structural engineering and as a special expert for large equipment in opencast mining. As rector, he had the university library relocated in good time and thus prevented its destruction in the war. After the war, Pfannmüller continued to teach at the TH Hannover and had his own office in Hannover.
