About this picture
Hoßkirch from the south

Hoßkirch is a municipality in Baden-Württemberg and belongs to the Ravensburg district .

geography

Geographical location

Hoßkirch is located south of the wooded ridge of Wagenhart between Ostrach in the west and Altshausen in the east. The Königseggsee lies south of the village .

Neighboring communities

Hoßkirch borders in the east on Eichstegen , in the south on Guggenhausen , in the south-west on Königseggwald (all districts of Ravensburg), in the west on Ostrach and in the north on Bad Saulgau (both districts of Sigmaringen ).

Community structure

In addition to the eponymous Hoßkirch, the municipality includes the districts of Hüttenreute (since 1970), Sandhaus, Ratzenreute, Milpishaus, Wolfertsreute, Watt / Forsthaus and Kleewiesen.

history

historical postcard

Finds show that the area was settled in the Neolithic Age. The church of Hoßkirch was first mentioned in a document from the Weingarten monastery in 1098 as a Husechirche . In 1269 the settlement was granted city rights by the Weingarten abbot Hermann von Biechtenweiler. However, due to insufficient fortifications and infrastructure as well as the proximity of the cities of Pfullendorf and Saulgau, the young town did not develop into an urban base of the monastery in the region as hoped, so that as early as 1286 the bailiwick of Hoßkirch passed from Rudolf von Habsburg to Ulrich von Königsegg was pledged. In 1418 the place was completely destroyed by fire, together with the two city gates that had existed until then. From 1535 the Weingarten Monastery left the Hoßkirch property to the Lords of Königsegg as a pledge, and later sold the place to them.

In 1806, the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Württemberg and the Saulgau Oberamt (from 1934: Saulgau district ).

During the Second World War , a catering train was blown up by airplanes near Lake Hoßkircher.

On January 1, 1970, the municipality of Hüttenreute was incorporated into Hoßkirch. The community has been a member of the Altshausen community administration association based in Altshausen since 1972 . During the administrative reform in 1973 it was added to the Ravensburg district.

Religions

Hoßkirch is the seat of the Catholic parish of St. Petrus, which belongs to the Saulgau deanery. The Protestant Christians in the community belong to the Altshausen parish in the church district of Biberach.

politics

coat of arms

The community has a coat of arms awarded on September 18, 1968 by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior and a flag in the colors "yellow-red" (gold-red), which was awarded at the same time.

Description of the coat of arms : "In red over a square golden (yellow) battlement wall, a golden (yellow) key with the beard to the right."

The coat of arms motif with the battlements alludes to the medieval elevation of Hoßkirch to the city. The key is the attribute of St. Petrus , to whom the parish church in Hoßkirch is consecrated. The coat of arms colors red and gold are taken from the coat of arms of the Lords of Königsegg .

The incorporated Hüttenreute did not have an official coat of arms.

Municipal council

After the election on May 25, 2014, the Hoßkirch municipal council has eight members.

mayor

Roland Haug has been the mayor of the municipality since October 1, 2014. In the election on July 8, 2014, Haug was the only candidate for the town hall executive chair and is therefore the successor to Klaus Wlochowitz, who held the office for 23 years. The election result shows broad approval from the population. Despite only one applicant, a large number went to vote. The turnout was 61.6% and 99% of the votes went in favor of Roland Haug. The independent municipality of Hoßkirch had previously had a mayor in the main office. By resolution of the municipal council, the position will be run on a voluntary basis from 2014. One of the main reasons for this was deleveraging. Roland Haug is not only honorary mayor in Hoßkirch, but - in the main office - also mayor of the Ebersbach-Musbach community . Haug is thus the only "double mayor" in the Ravensburg district.
