Wayne Alan Jones (born April 24, 1965 in Wolverhampton ) is an English darts player . He is currently under contract with the PDC .

Career

Beginnings at BDO

In the late 1980s Jones began his career with the BDO and reached the finals of the British Open and the British Classic 2000 in 1990, but lost both finals. In 1999 he reached the final of the Winmau World Masters , but lost to Andy Fordham in the final .

Until 2001 Jones could not qualify for the BDO World Championship. In 2001 he lost to Andy Fordham in the first round. At the 2002 World Cup, he reached the quarterfinals after defeating Tony Eccles and Ted Hankey 3-2 each, but then lost 5-1 to Martin Adams .

Change to PDC

In 2006 he made it to the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship, but lost to Peter Manley 0: 6. He reached his first televised final in August 2010 at the European Darts Championship , in which Phil Taylor beat him 1:11 (his Masters final was not televised). This qualified him for the Grand Slam of Darts 2010 and 2011 , both of which were held in Wolverhampton. At the 2010 tournament he caused a sensation when he defeated Gary Anderson in the quarterfinals with 16:15 despite being behind several times. In the semifinals he was then defeated by James Wade 6:16. At the Grand Slam 2011 he was defeated by Terry Jenkins in the round of 16 with 8:10 after the group stage . At the PDC World Championship in 2012, after victories against Scott MacKenzie (3: 1) and Roland Scholten (4: 0) in the round of 16, he lost 4-0 to eventual world champion Adrian Lewis .
