Wendy is a radio play series based on the comics from the girls' magazine of the same name .

Overview

The Wendy radio plays have appeared in various phases of production. They are based on the comic templates from the horse comics of the same name by Ehapa .

Initially, the radio plays were published by Ehapa Verlag under the Europa label. The series, produced from 1989 to 1993, was discontinued after 22 episodes. It was based on the dialogue books by HG Francis , who had already written some Wendy novels. Heikedine Körting directed and produced the radio play series. The speakers for the series were: Rainer Schmitt , Samira Chanfir , Holger Mahlich , Micaëla Kreißler , Katharina Brauren , Ann Montenbruck , Pamela Grundschok , Tobias Pauls , Mark Seidenberg and Michael Harck .

From March 1, 1994, 30 episodes of Kiosk followed with new speakers, including Hubertus Bengsch , Ranja Bonalana , Jürgen Kluckert , Melanie Hinze , Julia Zahl and Björn Schalla .

After the label Kiosk was renamed Kiddinx , the series was continued with episode 31 and the same speakers. The first 30 episodes of kiosks appeared later on Kiddinx.

The radio plays from Europa, Kiosk and Kiddinx are very similar to each other. So there are the same main characters in all series. Many of the secondary characters such as horse host Karl Ruthfuss or Wendy's teacher Spider (Herr Festen) appear both at Europa and at Kiosk / Kiddinx. Only the speakers and the individual adventures differ. In terms of time, the stories of Europe take place before those of the Kiosk and Kiddinx. While HG Francis wrote the dialogue book for each of the Europa episodes, he was only the author of the first 21 Wendy episodes of Kiosk and Kiddinx. After HG Francis wrote there Nelly Sand (episodes 22-43, 45-68) and Markus Dittrich (episode 44) the dialogue book. Kiddinx recommends the series for children from 7 years. Critics think the series is suitable for both boys and girls, as well as young and old.

From 2013 to 2015 twelve Wendy radio plays were also produced by the Edel Kids label . The radio plays are based on the episodes of the same name from the Wendy animation series . Susanne Sternberg wrote the dialogue books for the radio play series. This radio play series differs from the previous Wendy series. Wendy has a little adoptive sister named Sina instead of a big sister named Alexa. Wendy lives on Rosenborg with Sina, her grandmother and her parents. Oliver Anders does not appear in the series, but some characters have different surnames: Vanessa Thorsteeg-Held is called Vanessa Mahler in this series and Bianca Herrmann is called Bianca Krämer. The style of these radio plays is also different. The individual stories are much shorter and are intended for slightly younger children.

In 2017, Wendy was released - the original radio play for the movie produced by Karussell . It is based on the movie Wendy - The Movie . Thomas Karallus wrote the dialogue book for the audio book based on the film script by Carolin Hecht . The radio play on the film is very different from the previous radio plays; so Wendy is visiting her grandmother's riding stables and doesn't live there. She has no sisters but a brother named Tom. Many characters from the previous radio plays, such as Wendy, her parents Gunnar and Heike, Grandma Herta, Vanessa or Wendy's horse Dixie also appear in this radio play. However, there are other background stories to these characters that cannot be reconciled with the actions from the previous radio plays.

action

Wendy and her friends spend most of their free time at the Lindenhöhe riding stables, which are owned by Wendy's parents. They experience many adventures in the process. For example, they jointly take action against animal abusers or criminals, take part in horse riding competitions or stand up for the people around them.

Locations

Lindenhöhe

Lindenhöhe is a riding stables. Wendy, her parents, and her aunt Ingrid and cousin Vanessa live there. There are many different animals in Lindenhöhe: In addition to horses, there are also dogs (Wuschel), cats, goats and chickens to be found there. Breeds of horses that exist at Lindenhöhe are: Arabs , Trakehner , Holsteiner , Bosniak , Hanoverian , Appaloosa , Haflinger , Icelandic horse and pinto .

One day Lindenhöhe burns to the ground. The animals and people on the riding stables can still be brought to safety in good time. The fire started in four different places. At one point, a fire was caused by a sports car parked on a dirt road that was closed to cars. The grass grew very tall there and reached the scorching catalyst that set the grass on fire. A smoldering fire broke out . The wind fanned the fire and spread it further. For unknown reasons, fires started in three other places, which also spread. The fire was carried into the surrounding forests and meadows and also set some houses on fire, including Lindenhöhe and Ingrid Thorsteeg-Held's beauty farm, both of which burned to the ground.

Rosenborg

After the Lindenhöhe riding stables burn down, Wendy and her family move to Rosenborg. Wendy's father Gunnar buys the orphaned riding stables right after the fire. So family and animals can move in directly there and don't have to look for another place to stay. The animals from the Lindenhöhe riding stables are all taken along. Since the new riding stables cost more than the insurance pays for the fire damage at linden height, Gunnar Thorsteeg has to sell some of his horses. To Wendy's relief, Wendy can keep her two mares Miss Dixie and Penny and bring them to Rosenborg.

Reviews

Europe

Hörspielland praises the dialogue book and the exciting stories. In addition, the background music was well chosen and the speakers were impressive. The series is not only suitable for horse lovers, but also for boys and girls. Next was Heikedine Körting praised for directing and producing. In addition, the series would convey values such as friendship and helpfulness. The stories are told sensitively and the characters are lovingly designed.

Kiosk and Kiddinx

Horst Heidtmann from ekz-Medien-Info thinks that the title character is genre-appropriate, conventionally designed, and above average clever and skillful. In addition to the seven to eleven year old readers of the magazine Wendy, the radio play series is also interesting for older girls and boys. Detlef Kurtz from Hörnews praised the cast of the series after the first kiosk episode. Ranja Helmy (now Bonalana) as Wendy sounds likable, but she is sometimes portrayed as being too supernaturally friendly. Otherwise the performers would sound lifelike. In addition, the background music is quite subtle, but effective. Benjamin Vahldiek from KidsDeal thinks the series is really fun and offers great stories and speakers. The narrator Hubertus Bengsch is particularly good . The series is not only dedicated to the classic horse theme, but also deals with poachers, gang gangs, arsonists, conservationists and smaller intrigues. Therefore, it is suitable for both boys and girls as well as for young and old. In 2001 the series came in 13th place in the sales charts for radio play series with a turnover of 1.6 million marks. A year later, she came 12th.
