St. Margarethen an der Sierning (also Sankt Margarethen an der Sierning ) is a municipality with 1007 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the St. Pölten-Land district in Lower Austria .

St. Margarethen an der Sierning is located in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the municipality covers 14.56 square kilometers. 7.3 percent of the area is forested.

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .
The parish in St. Margarethen an der Sierning was established around the year 1200.
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1025 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 1006 inhabitants, in 1981 941 and in 1971 899 inhabitants.
politics
Franz Trischler (ÖVP) was the mayor of the community until 2020 , and Brigitte Thallauer (also ÖVP) was elected mayor after the 2020 local council election. Head of office is Renate Mayringer.
After the 2020 municipal council elections , there were 15 seats in the municipal council as follows: ÖVP 12, SPÖ 2, FPÖ 1.

In 2001 there were 30 non-agricultural workplaces, and there were 56 in agricultural and forestry operations according to the 1999 survey. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at the place of residence was 466. In 2001, the activity rate was 47.21 percent.
