To you (far away) is a song by the German pop singer Mark Forster . The track is the second single from his debut album, Karton .
Creation and artwork
The song was written jointly by Mark Forster, David Jürgens and Christian Neander. The single was mixed, produced and programmed in the Tucan Studio in Kornwestheim ( Baden-Württemberg ), under the direction of Ralf Christian Mayer ; Sebastian Böhnisch and Forster were at his side as additional co-producers. The piece was mastered under the direction of Howie Weinberg, in his own recording studio in Los Angeles ( USA ). The single was released under the Four Music label and distributed by Sony Music Entertainment .
On the cover of the maxi single - in addition to the artist name and song title - Forster's upper body can be seen in black and white , in front of a yellow skyline with a white sky. The color scheme is similar to that of the previous single releases on the way . Julia Schliewe from Dangerous Berlin did the artwork for the cover picture, the photography was done by Sven Sindt.
Publication and promotion
The first publication of To you (far away) was performed as digital maxi single on 19 October 2012. The maxi-single includes not only the radio version of To you (far away) an acoustic version of the song and the play Anna as another B-sides . In order to promote the song, there was a live appearance on Sat.1 breakfast television .

In terms of content, the song deals with long-distance relationships . Forster himself said the following about the creation of the song: “All of my songs have something to do with me directly. They are almost autobiographical . But not only, it is a mixture of what I have experienced myself in my long-distance relationship or what I have noticed from other people. " |

The music video for Zu dir (far away) celebrated its premiere on October 5, 2012 on YouTube . You can see the daily routines of a couple who live separately from each other. Often both can be seen in parallel with the same tasks or identical work processes. The male part is played by Forster himself. The total length of the video is 3:44 minutes. Directed by Caspar-Jan Hogerzeil. To date, the music video has over 5.9 million views on YouTube (as of December 2016).

Zu dir (far away) reached position 64 in the single charts in Germany and was in the charts for a whole week. The single was able to enter the charts for the first time around a year after its release. For Forster, this is the second chart success of his career as an interpreter and author.
For David Jürgens as an author this is the sixth chart success in Germany, for Christian Neander it is the 16th chart success in the German single charts. For Ralf Christian Mayer as a music producer, this is already the ninth chart success in Germany.

- 2013: Peer Richter , the German pop singer sang the song at the blind auditions of the third season of The Voice of Germany . He was able to convince the coaches Max Herre and Nena with his appearance . Richter chose Nena, with whose help he reached the semifinals.
