Dave Edward Satterfield Jr. (born September 11, 1894 in Richmond , Virginia , †  December 27, 1946 there ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1945 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dave Satterfield attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree at the University of Richmond and his admission to the bar in 1916, he began to work in Richmond in this profession. During the First World War , Satterfield served first directly in the US Navy and then in their air corps. Between 1922 and 1933 he was a Richmond District Attorney. Then he practiced again as a private lawyer. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

After the death of MP Andrew Jackson Montague , Satterfield was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for the by-election for the third seat of Virginia , where he took up his new mandate on November 2, 1937. After three re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on February 15, 1945 . There, further New Deal laws were passed by the federal government by 1941 . Since 1941, the work of the Congress was also shaped by the events of World War II .

Satterfield resigned after his appointment as executive director of the Life Insurance Association of America in New York City . He died on December 27, 1946 in Richmond, where he was also buried. His son David (1920–1988) was also a member of Congress.
