Robert Ridgway (born April 21, 1823 in Lynchburg , Virginia , †  October 16, 1870 in Cool Well , Virginia) was an American politician . In 1870 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Ridgway attended Emory and Henry College in Emory and then studied at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Bedford in this profession. At that time he also published the Bedford Sentinel newspaper. In 1853 he moved to Richmond , where he also published a newspaper until the beginning of the Civil War . Then he settled in Amherst .

After the Civil War, Ridgway was elected to Congress , but not allowed there because Virginia was not yet a member of the Union again. After the re-admission of his state to the union, he was elected in the fifth constituency of Virginia as a member of the Conservative Party in the US House of Representatives, where he took up his new mandate on January 27, 1870. He was only able to do this until his death on October 16 of the same year.
