Tazewell Ellett

Tazewell Ellett (born January 1, 1856 in Richmond , Virginia , †  May 19, 1914 in Summerville , South Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tazewell Ellett attended the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington until 1876 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and his admission as a lawyer in 1878, he began to work in Richmond in this profession. He was also a member of the governing body of the Virginia Military Institute. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 1894 congressional election , Ellett was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded George D. Wise on March 4, 1895 . Since he was not confirmed in 1896, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1897 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Ellett practiced as a lawyer in Richmond and New York City again. He died in Summerville on May 19, 1914 and was buried in Richmond.
