James Dennis Brady

James Dennis Brady (born April 3, 1843 in Portsmouth , Virginia , †  November 30, 1900 in Petersburg , Virginia) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Brady initially worked in retail after leaving school. After studying law and becoming a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. During the Civil War he served in a unit from New York State that was part of the Union Army until 1865 . Between 1865 and 1877 he was an administrative clerk at the Corporation Court in Portsmouth. Between 1877 and 1885 he was head of the tax department in Virginia's Second Financial District. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1880, 1888 and 1896 he was a delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions .

In the congressional election of 1884 Brady was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded Benjamin Stephen Hooper on March 4, 1885 . Since he refused to run again in 1886, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1887 . From 1889 to 1900 Brady was again in charge of the tax department in Virginia's Second Financial District. Between 1888 and 1892 he was a member of the Republican National Committee . James Brady died on November 30, 1900 in Petersburg, where he was also buried.
