Glenn Carlyle Nye III (born September 9, 1974 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician . Between 2009 and 2011 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Glenn Nye attended the Norfolk Academy in Virginia and then studied at Georgetown University in Washington, DC until 1996. He then worked for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development , which mainly looks after the future of the former Eastern Bloc countries. Since 2001 he worked for the US State Department on an international assignment. He was deployed in Kosovo , Macedonia , Afghanistan , Singapore and the Middle East , among others . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 2008 congressional elections , Nye was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the second constituency of Virginia, where he succeeded Thelma Drake on January 3, 2009 . Since he was defeated by Republican Scott Rigell in 2010 , he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 2011 . He was a member of the Armed Forces Committee , the Committee on Small Business and the Veterans Committee, as well as a total of six sub-committees. Within the party, he is part of the Blue Dog Coalition . Among other things, he voted against the Clean Energy and Security Act and the Affordable Health Care for America Act .
