Thomas Stuart Price "Tom" Perriello (born October 9, 1974 in Charlottesville , Virginia ) is an American politician . Between 2009 and 2011 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tom Perriello attended public schools in his home country. He then studied law at Yale University until 2001, among other things. He then worked as an advisor to the international public prosecutor's office, which indicted the Liberian dictator Charles Taylor , among others . He has often worked abroad, including in Africa and the Middle East. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 2008 congressional election , Perriello was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded Virgil Goode on January 3, 2009 . Since he was not confirmed in 2010, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until January 3, 2011 . There he was a member of the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure and the Veterans Committee as well as five sub-committees. For the 2017 gubernatorial election, Perriello ran in the Democratic Primary in June 2017, but had to surrender to incumbent Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam . During the election campaign he was supported by the left wing of the party, including Bernie Sanders .
