William Lee Ball

William Lee Ball (born January 2, 1781 in Lancaster County , Virginia , †  February 29, 1824 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1824 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Ball attended public schools in his home country. Nothing is known about his professional career beyond politics. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In 1805 and 1806 and again from 1810 to 1814 he sat in the Virginia House of Representatives . After that he was a member of the State Senate until 1817 . During the British-American War of 1812 he was paymaster in a regiment out of Virginia.

In the congressional elections of 1816 Ball was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington in the ninth constituency of Virginia, where he succeeded John Pratt Hungerford on March 4, 1817 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on February 29, 1824 . From 1823 he represented the 13th district of his state there as the successor to Burwell Bassett .
