David S. Garland

David Sheppard Garland (born September 27, 1769 in New Glasgow , Amherst County , Colony of Virginia , †  October 7, 1841 in Clifford , Virginia ) was an American politician . In 1810 and 1811 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Garland enjoyed an academic education. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party . Between 1799 and 1802 and again from 1805 to 1809 he sat in the Virginia House of Representatives . From 1809 to 1811 he was a member of the State Senate .

After the resignation of MP Wilson Cary Nicholas , Garland was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election due for the 21st seat of Virginia , where he took up his new mandate on January 17, 1810. By March 3, 1811 he ended the current legislative period there. Even after his time in the US House of Representatives, David Garland remained politically active. Between 1814 and 1836 he was a member of the Virginia House of Representatives on several occasions. He died in Clifford on October 7, 1841.
