Rorer A. James
Rorer Abraham James (born March 1, 1859 in Brosville , Pittsylvania County , Virginia , † August 6, 1921 in Danville , Virginia) was an American politician . In 1920 and 1921 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Rorer James initially enjoyed a private education and then attended Roanoke College . He then studied until 1882 at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and his admission as a lawyer in 1887, he began to work in Danville in this profession. In this city he also worked in the newspaper business. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1889 and 1892 he was a member of the Virginia House of Representatives ; from 1893 to 1901 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1920 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco . At times he also acted as chairman of his party at the state level.
After the resignation of MP Edward W. Saunders , James was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the due by-election for the fifth seat of Virginia , where he took up his new mandate on June 1, 1920. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his death on August 6, 1921 . Then his mandate fell to J. Murray Hooker, who was elected in a by-election .
