Jo Ann S. Davis (born June 29, 1950 in Rowan County , North Carolina , †  October 6, 2007 in Gloucester County , Virginia ) was an American politician . From 2001 to 2007 she represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jo Ann Davis had lived in Virginia since she was nine. There she attended the Hampton Roads Business College . Then she worked in the real estate industry. She started her own company in this field. At the same time, she embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . From 1997 to 2001 she was a member of the Virginia House of Representatives .

In the 2000 congressional elections , Davis was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Virginia , where she succeeded the late Herbert H. Bateman on January 3, 2001 . Reelected three times, she served in Congress until her death in October 2007 . In the House of Representatives, she was temporarily a member of the Armed Forces Committee, the Committee on International Relations and the Intelligence Committee . During her time as Congresswoman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . In 2002 she voted for the military operation in Iraq.

In 2005 she developed breast cancer; she succumbed to this disease on October 6, 2007. From 1974 she was married to Chuck Davis, with whom she had two sons.
