Harry Lee Maynard (born June 8, 1861 in Portsmouth , Virginia , †  October 23, 1922 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1911 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Harry Maynard attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1880 at the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College in Blacksburg . In the following years he worked in the real estate industry. He also worked to improve public services. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He served in the Virginia House of Representatives in 1889 and 1890 ; from 1893 to 1901 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the congressional elections of 1900 Maynard was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded the late Richard Alsop Wise on March 4, 1901 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1911 . In 1910 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Harry Maynard moved to New York, where he worked in the insurance industry as well as in real estate. He died on October 23, 1922 in Fort Totten, part of New York, and was buried in his birthplace, Portsmouth.
