Season chronology

The Simpsons' tenth season originally aired between August 23, 1998 and May 16, 1999, beginning with "Lard of the Dance" which was aired earlier than normal to promote the premiere of That '70s Show.[1] The season contained four hold-over episodes from the season 9 (5F) production line. It also saw the start of the new XABFXX production code, which has continued to this day. It is also the start of the slow, morbid decline in the quality of the series, which also has continued to this day.

The DVD set comes in two varieties – a limited edition Bart Simpson head-shaped box and a standard rectangular box with artwork prominently featuring Bart riding a cart to a movie studio. The box set was released in Region 1 on August 7th, 2007, Region 2 on September 10, 2007 and Region 4 on September 26, 2007.

Lisa befriends a new student named Alex Whitney, whose mature attitude convinces Lisa's friends to be just like her. Meanwhile, Homer convinces Bart to drop out of school for what he thinks to be a more promising pursuit: selling grease. Guest star: Lisa Kudrow.

Nelson invites Bart over to experiment with a BB gun, which in turn leads to the death of a mother bird. After Marge comes into realization of Bart's crime, she gives up punishing him entirely. Bart's guilt causes him to nurse the eggs and their contents into fruition. Guest star: Phil Hartman (in his final role)

Season 10's annual trio of Halloween stories. "Hell Toupee" – Homer gets a hair transplant from recently executed Snake Jailbird (who was sentenced to death after breaking the city's three strikes law), who proceeds to possess Homer, forcing him to kill the people who witnessed Snake's final crime. "The Terror of Tiny Toon" – Bart and Lisa use plutonium as a remote control battery after which the radioactivity sucks them into a Halloween episode of Itchy and Scratchy where they become part of the gruesome cartoon action. "Starship Poopers" – Marge reveals that Kang is Maggie's real father and the family become guests on The Jerry Springer Show. Guest stars: Regis Philbin, Kathie Lee Gifford, Jerry Springer, Ed McMahon, Marcia Wallace, Robert Englund and Kane Hodder.

When a parasailing accident sends Homer through the ceiling windows of the secret home of Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin, they hire him as their personal assistant, provided that Homer doesn't tell anyone where Baldwin and Basinger are. While sick from school, Lisa becomes obsessed with a video game and neglects to study for a test. Her only options being to cheat or fail, she calls upon Nelson Muntz for the test's answers. Meanwhile, Homer houses a lobster, becomes emotionally attached to it and decides to keep it as a pet.

Abe Simpson is forced to "hold it in" during a long drive home which results in a burst kidney. Homer offers to give his grandfather one of his kidneys, but when his friends scare him with possible scenarios of what could happen if he donates an organ, Homer runs away and joins a group of weird characters who have also fled in shame.

Apu, in recognition of Valentine's Day, showers Manjula with a week of singing parrots and sky-written love notes, inciting jealousy in the other wives and girlfriends around Springfield, causing Homer, along with a group of dicontented men, to attempt the sabotage of Apu's biggest gift. Meanwhile, Marge uses Maggie's baby monitor to listen in on phone calls.

While at a steakhouse, a trucker named Red challenges Homer to an eating contest, ending with Homer losing the match and the trucker losing his life. To make it up to him, Homer becomes a trucker and takes Bart along for the ride. Meanwhile, after deducing that only Homer and Bart get to do the fun things in life, Marge and Lisa decide to excite their lives by installing a new doorbell.

DVD release

The DVD boxset for season ten was released by 20th Century Fox in the United States and Canada on August 7, 2007, eight years after it had completed broadcast on television. As well as every episode from the season, the DVD release features bonus material including deleted scenes, Animatics, and commentaries for every episode. The set was released in two different covers: a Bart head to match the heads of the previous versions, and also a regular-shaped box. The menus continue the same format from the previous five seasons, and the overall theme is various characters waiting in a movie studio.
