The Austrian Fed Cup team is the national tennis team of Austria that is used in the Fed Cup . The Fed Cup (until 1995 Federation Cup) is the most important competition for national teams in women's tennis, analogous to the Davis Cup for men. Due to the descent in 2015, they have to compete in group II for the first time in history after 7 years in the Europe / Africa zone group I.
history
Austria participated for the first time in 1963. Since then Austria has participated in 49 editions of the Fed Cup, 17 of them in the world group.
The longest winning streak was achieved by the team under the leadership of Ingrid Resch with 6 wins in a row. The team won both group games in Group I of the Europe / Africa zone, made it into the world group and only failed in the quarter-finals against the USA . The only 5-0 victory so far dates from 1998, when the Austrian defeated the Polish team in the playoff of World Group II in Salzburg . So far, there have been six 0-5 defeats, none of which had to be accepted on home soil. In 1999 a 2-0 deficit was made up for the first and so far last time against Australia . In 2002 and 2004, the Austrian team reached the semi-finals as in 1990, but failed to Spain and Russia respectively .
