The 1st women's tennis league organized by the DTB is the top division in German women's team tennis . The first place at the end of the season is the German team champion. Since the single-track league began in 1999, a total of eight different clubs have won the championship title. The most successful club is TC Zamek Benrath with six Bundesliga championships.
Before 1999, the women's tennis Bundesliga was divided into two groups of four teams each and the German team champion was determined in a play-off between the two group winners. Simultaneously with the introduction of the 2nd Bundesliga in 1999, the - now 1st - Bundesliga became a single track and has since been played in the simple league mode, i.e. H. the seven participating teams each play once against each other team and the first place in the Bundesliga final table is the German champions. The season usually takes place in May and June and consists of seven match days. The last two placed will be relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga and will be replaced by the first placed in the 2nd Bundesliga North and 2nd Bundesliga South.
It is played with teams of six. Each match is therefore decided in nine matches, with six singles and then three doubles being played. The winner of a match is determined in best-of-three mode. H. whoever wins two sets first wins. If a decisive third set is necessary, this is played in a match tie-break (up to ten points). The winning team in an encounter receives two points. In contrast to the men's Bundesliga, where four teams are played, there is no draw. In the event of a tie in the table, the set ratio and, if it is equal, the game ratio decides on the final placement.
