1st Yugoslav Football League 1990/91

The 1st Yugoslav Football League 1991/92 was the 63rd and last season of the highest Yugoslav division in men's football . It began on August 11, 1991 and ended on May 24, 1992. Defending champion FK Red Star Belgrade became Yugoslav champions for the 19th time.

It was the last season that Bosnian (with the exception of FK Borac Banja Luka ) and Macedonian clubs participated. Even before the start of the season, the Croatian and Slovenian clubs withdrew after their republics had declared independence.

During the season, Macedonia and then Bosnia and Herzegovina declared their independence from Yugoslavia. When the Bosnian War began in 1992, FK Željezničar Sarajevo missed the second half of the season, and three other Bosnian teams (FK Velež Mostar, FK Sarajevo and Sloboda Tuzla) left the competition six rounds before the end of the season.

The remaining Bosnian team (Borac Banja Luka) and the two Macedonian clubs (Vardar Skopje and Pelister Bitola) played the season to the end, with Vardar and Pelister moving to the Macedonian league at the end of the season. After all, the twelve Serbian clubs with seven newcomers formed the first division of the FR Yugoslavia in which Borac Banja Luka was also represented by a Bosnian team that played their home games in Belgrade.

mode

18 teams played against each other twice on a total of 34 match days, divided into a first and a second half. Tied games were decided by penalty shootouts, with the winner receiving one point and the loser not receiving a point.
