Marshal Tito dies

The match of the 25th matchday between Hajduk Split and Red Star Belgrade was marked by great sadness. On the afternoon of May 4, 1980, three men entered the Poljud stadium shortly before the end of the first half and signaled the referee Husref Muharemagić to interrupt the game. The Mayor of Split, Ante Skataretiko, took the microphone and informed the 35,000 spectators that the Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito had died. The game was abandoned when the score was 1: 1 and repeated on May 21, 1980. For the same reason, the games Dinamo Zagreb against Željezničar Sarajevo (0: 0) and FK Sarajevo against NK Osijek (1: 1) were canceled and repeated.
