The 1st Yugoslav Football League 1978/79 was the 50th season of the highest Yugoslav division in men's football . It began on August 12, 1978 and ended on June 17, 1979.
Hajduk Split became Yugoslav champions for the ninth time due to the better goal difference. FK Napredak Kruševac and FK Željezničar Sarajevo managed direct recovery. Defending champion FK Partizan Belgrade was only able to save themselves from relegation on the last day of the match.
