The 2017/18 season of the 3rd division in women's handball was the eighth in its history. In four seasons with a total of 48 teams, the unofficial North, East, West and South German championship as well as the qualification for the 2nd Bundesliga were played.

mode

The 3rd women's division consists of four seasons, the composition of which was based on geographical factors. A double round tournament was played in each season . The four season winners rose to the second Bundesliga. The last three teams placed in each season were relegated to the corresponding major leagues . Deviating from this general stipulation, there could be other promotion and relegation scenarios that are bindingly regulated in the DHB game rules and the implementation regulations.

Season south

Master TuS Metzingen II was not eligible for promotion, as was the second-placed SG BBM Bietigheim II. Therefore, no team from the southern season was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga.

The TSV Kandel withdrew after the end of the season from the 3rd division and was thus determined as another relegated.

Relegation relegation

The tenth placed of the four seasons took part in the relegation relegation and determined - in each case in the first and second leg - two more relegated. The following encounters took place:

date Time Home team Visiting team Result
April 28, 2018 4:00 p.m. MTV 1860 Altlandsberg - SFN Vechta 34:21 (14:10)
19:30 o'clock TS Herzogenaurach - HV Chemnitz 24:26 (11:15)
1st May 2018 4:00 p.m. SFN Vechta - MTV 1860 Altlandsberg 30:21 (14:10)
4:30 p.m. HV Chemnitz - TS Herzogenaurach 16:17 (9:11)

Thus the MTV 1860 Altlandsberg and the HV Chemnitz remained in the 3rd division. The relegated teams of SFN Vechta and TS Herzogenaurach determined a possible successor in two further games. A successor relegation of the eleventh table was not carried out due to a lack of reports.

date Time Home team Visiting team Result
5th May 2018 4:00 p.m. TS Herzogenaurach - SFN Vechta 24:27 (13:11)
May 10, 2018 13:00 'O clock SFN Vechta - TS Herzogenaurach 21:27 (11:12)

TS Herzogenaurach was therefore a possible successor in the event that another team should withdraw from the 2nd or 3rd division. At the end of June 2018, the SG Menden Sauerland Wölfe withdrew their team from the 3rd division; so that Herzogenaurach could actually move up and not have to dismount.
