Silverstone 4-hour race 2019, 1st race
The 4-hour race of Silverstone 2019, 1st race took place on August 31st on the Silverstone Circuit and was the fourth round of the European Le Mans Series of this year. A day later, a 4-hour race also took place in Silverstone, the 4-hour race of Silverstone 2019, 2nd race , the first championship run of the 2019/20 FIA World Endurance Championship .
Before the race
39 vehicles were registered for the fourth race of the European Le Mans Series. In the qualifying session, Ben Hanley, with the Oreca 07 of the DragonSpeed Team, was able to drive the best time. In the LMP3 class Yann Ehrlacher achieved the best starting position for M Racing and in the LMGTE class Thomas Preining for Proton Competition.
The race
Before the race, the Idec Sport Team announced that the French Erik Maris will be replaced by his compatriot William Cavailhas. A heavy rain shower set in just 5 minutes after the start of the race, which led to many early pit stops and the leading DragonSpeed Oreca 07, driven by James Allen, spinning. Almost 100 minutes before the end of the race, Mike Guasch's Ligier crashed into the first safety car phase, when he hit the guardrail after touching another vehicle. A second safety car phase occurred after a collision between the two Orecas from Duqueine Engineering and Cool Racing. 5 minutes before the end of the race, the LMP3 prototype of the Inter Europol Competition Team with the number 13 was brought into the pits by the race management to fix a loose piece of bodywork. This loss of time by the Inter Europol team led the Eurointernational team to class victory. In the LMGTE class, Preining, Giraudi and Sanchez won in the Porsche 911 RSR. Overall victory was achieved by Lafargue, Chatin and Rojas in the Oreca 07 with the number 28 of the Idec Sport Team, which celebrated its first overall victory in the European Le Mans Series.
