The Mobile Athlon 64 is a notebook processor from AMD . It is essentially based on the Athlon 64 and thus belongs to the K8 generation .

technology

In terms of functionality, the processors are completely identical to the AMD Athlon 64 , but some of them have a significantly lower power loss due to a reduced supply voltage. Due to the extensive agreement and pin compatibility, the processors can also be used in ATX mainboards, provided that the BIOS provides the necessary microcode.

The Mobile Athlon 64 is available in three versions. The desktop replacement version has a TDP of 81.5 W, which is only slightly less than the desktop version. The standard version is 62 W TDP and the low-power version is 35 W TDP. The latter was continued under the name Turion 64 since spring 2005 . The first models of the Mobile Athlon 64 appeared under the name Athlon XP-M .

Due to the high power consumption - the competing Intel Pentium M had a maximum of 27 W - these first 64-bit processors for notebooks hardly played a role on the market.
