history

Air Tindi was founded by the Arychuk family who were born and raised in the north. Flight operations began on November 1st, 1988 with four machines and eight employees in Yellowknife. Originally, passengers and cargo were flown to the communities, vacation homes and lodges north of Yellowknife.

Since 1992, Air Tindi has been the largest floatplane operator in northern Canada. Customers include the Canadian government, territorial and provincial governments, the US government, Dogrib groups, holiday resorts, canoe tourists, hunters and trappers, and sports teams.

The company flies from two locations in Yellowknife. At the airport there is a building complex with 3 hangars, its own line and charter terminal and a freight warehouse. The seaplane base is home to the machines equipped with floats in summer. In winter, the machines are converted to skids. The water base also serves as accommodation for the organizational, finance and marketing departments.

On December 19, 2006 Air Tindi was acquired by Discovery Air Inc , a trading company based in London, Ontario. The original owners kept their positions with Air Tindi.
