Wasaya Airways is a Canadian regional airline based in Thunder Bay . It is a subsidiary of Wasaya Group Inc , formerly Wasaya Corporation, which is 100% owned by the indigenous people of Northwestern Ontario.
history
In 1989 a number of indigenous people ( First Nations ) took part in an airline called Kelner Airways, whose fleet consisted of seaplanes . In 1993 Wasaya Corporation increased its stake to 75% and changed the name to Wasaya Airways Limited. In 1998 the current Wasaya Group took over the remaining share. In 1995 Wasaya Airways started regular passenger flights. The main business remained the freight and passenger charter traffic.
Wasaya Airways has successfully expanded its business since 2001. Contracts have been signed with various companies, state and private institutions, tourism companies and the like. a. completed. In September 2002 Wasaya Airways acquired the Kelner Pilatus Center at Thunder Bay International Airport and with it eight Pilatus PC-12 aircraft. In 2003 Wasaya Airways took over the northern Ontario lines from Bearskin Airlines and thus the hubs Sioux Lookout and Red Lake North . This increased the route network by 21 destinations to the places of the indigenous people in Northern Ontario.
