Canada 3000 Airlines ( Canada 3000 for short) was a Canadian airline that primarily offered charter flights.
history
In 1988, the British Air 2000 founded a subsidiary under the same name in Toronto , but due to massive objections from Canadian competitors, the AOC was withdrawn immediately before flight operations began. Local investors then took over the company and renamed it Canada 3000. Thus, one year later, flight operations could begin with the Boeing B757-200 , which was initially leased .
In the following years Canada 3000 established itself as a charter airline in the North American holiday traffic and gradually expanded the fleet. A first Airbus A320-200 was taken over in 1993 , and a second one three years later.
Canada 3000 entered the long-haul business for the 1999 summer season, took a first Airbus A330-200 into the fleet and set up the first connections a. a. to Amsterdam and Düsseldorf . Destination airports in Canada were Toronto, Calgary , Edmonton , Halifax and Vancouver .
After the merger of Air Canada and Canadian Airlines International in January 2001 and the growing competition u. a. by Air Transat , Canada 3000 came under pressure, then took over the competitor Royal Aviation and, initially successfully, stepped up as a low-cost airline in national scheduled services .
As a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 , sales fell rapidly - on November 8, 2001, flight operations were suspended due to insolvency without any apparent sign .
Destinations
Canada 3000 initially flew to the classic holiday regions in North and Central America and later expanded the route portfolio to Europe and Australia. In addition, after taking over the corresponding line rights, national connections were also established.
