Alexandra Lowe Riley (born October 30, 1987 in Los Angeles , California ) is a New Zealand soccer player and at the same time - since March 2017 - captain of the national team of New Zealand . She has been named Player of the Year several times by the New Zealand Football Association (NZF) and the Oceanic Football Confederation (OFC) ; Riley has been under contract with FC Rosengård since July 2020 .

Career

societies

Riley began her career in 2009 with W-League participant Pali Blues before moving to the WPS franchise FC Gold Pride for the 2010 season. With FC she was WPS champion at the end of the season, personally honored as rookie of the year and subsequently moved to league competitor Western New York Flash , with whom she was able to win the championship again in the 2011 season . After the dissolution of the WPS before the 2012 season, Riley joined the Swedish first division club LdB FC Malmö , with whom they won the Swedish championship for the first time in 2013. In the UEFA Women's Champions League 2012/13 she failed with Malmö in the quarter-finals at the eventual finalists Olympique Lyon . However, Malmö was able to defend the title as Swedish champions. In the 2013/14 UEFA Women's Champions League , Malmö failed in the round of 16 against the later successful defending champions VfL Wolfsburg . In December 2013 the club renamed itself FC Rosengård and then won the Swedish championship again under this name in 2014, where she played together with the German national player Anja Mittag , who was top scorer with 21 goals, and the Brazilian Marta . In the UEFA Women's Champions League 2014/15 they failed again against the defending champions, but this time only because of the away goals rule and only in the quarter-finals. In 2015 she was again Swedish champion with Rosengård, but again did not make it through the quarter-finals in the 2015/16 UEFA Women's Champions League and again it was the defending champions, this time 1. FFC Frankfurt . However, they only had to bow to this in the penalty shoot- out, whereby she was not one of the shooters. In 2016/17 Rosengård lost to the women of FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals in both games . 2017/18 was already the last sixteen against Chelsea Ladies , to whom both games were lost. In total, Riley played 30 CL games for Rosengård.

In July 2018, she left Rosengård and switched to the last CL opponent. For this, she played in nine league games in her first 2018/19 season and in the round of 16 of the 2018/19 UEFA Women's Champions League . The season ended for Chelsea in third place in the league and in the semi-finals of the Champions League, where the team scored one goal against defending champions Olympique Lyon .

For the 2019/20 season , she was signed by FC Bayern Munich and given a contract valid until June 30, 2021. She made her competitive debut on August 23, 2019 (2nd matchday) in a 3-0 home win against 1. FFC Frankfurt with a substitute for Jovana Damnjanović from the 34th minute. After a total of seven competitive appearances in the first half of the season, Riley moved to Orlando Pride in the US professional league at his own request in February 2020 . Riley returned to FC Rosengård in July 2020 .

National team

Riley played for the U20 team in her country and took part in the 2006 World Cup with them. She made her debut for the senior team of New Zealand on February 4, 2007 in a game against the national team of Mexico . She was part of her country's selection at the 2007 , 2011 and 2015 World Championships and, together with Ria Percival and Abby Erceg, has played the most World Cup games (9) for New Zealand. She also took part in the 2008 , 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. At the Olympic Games, it was used in all games, but only reached the quarter-finals with New Zealand in 2012. She has been the captain of the national team since March 2017. She took over the post after Abby Erceg's first resignation and kept it when Erceg announced her resignation twice.

On June 4, 2016, she came in the 0-2 defeat against the national team of Australia to her 100th international match for the "Football Ferns".

On April 29, she was nominated for the World Cup in France , which is the fourth time that she will take part in a World Cup.

Her only goal to date for the senior national team she scored on October 8, 2010 in an 11-0 victory over the national team of Papua New Guinea in the final of the Oceania Championship .
