District Court Borken (Hesse)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Borken District Court was a district court based in Borken (Hesse) .

history

A court had existed in Borken since the Middle Ages. During the time of the short-lived Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813), Borken was the seat of a cantonal administration and a court of justice in the Hersfeld district .

By edict of 29 June 1821 were Electorate of Hesse , the judiciary and administration in the lowest level separately. The Borken office lost its function as a court of first instance and in Borken an assistant office of the Homberg district court was set up in 1823 .

In 1831 Borken was given its own judicial office. This existed until the annexation by Prussia in 1867. The new Prussian rulers established a Prussian district court in place of the old electoral justice office. This was dissolved on June 30, 1968 (like all Hessian district courts with only one judge's position) and added to the judicial district of the Fritzlar district court. Until 1970, the court operation in Borken was retained as a branch office (even if the judge's position was no longer occupied from October 1967).

The district court district finally comprised the following places:

The Borken branch of the Fritzlar District Court was abolished on July 1, 1970 by ordinance of May 25, 1970. Thus, after more than 500 years of lower jurisdiction, only one local court remained in Borken .

Instance move

The district court of Marburg was superordinate to the court as the second instance court (which was initially named as the electoral higher court from 1821 and as the Prussian district court from 1867).

The courthouse

The "old district court"
The "new district court" (1955–1970)

From 1831 the judicial office used the rooms of the old electoral office building. The year of construction of this building is unclear. In any case, the building is already marked on the map of geometer JJ Krug from 1773. The Prussian district court also continued to use the building. In addition to the courtrooms, service apartments and the official prison were housed in the house.

In 1955 the new district court was built at Krausgasse 30. An expansion was also necessary because the Jesberg district court was dissolved and the Borken judicial district expanded.

The old building (in today's street “am alten Amtsgericht”) was acquired by the city of Borken. They converted it into a residential building with social housing .

After the Borken District Court was repealed in 1968, the new District Court continued to be used by the branch office of the Fritzlar District Court . After this was also repealed in 1970, the house was transferred to the district, which housed its school administration in it.
