Auernheim is a district of the town of Treuchtlingen in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen in Bavaria .

location

The cluster village is eight kilometers west of Treuchtlingen on the ridge of the Hahnenkamm in the southern Franconian Alb . The municipality includes the village of Schlittenhart and the hamlets of Freihardt , Hagenhof and Wieshof .

history

The origin is assumed in the 6th to 8th century, the place was first mentioned in a document in 1057 or 1073 as "Urenheim" on the occasion of a church consecration by the Eichstätter Bishop Gundekar II. The place name means either "to the home of an Uro" or it comes from him The term Ur for aurochs , which would mean that cattle was raised in pre-Roman times.

With the emergence of a local aristocratic family, the former free farming village lost its freedom from village in 1253.

During the Thirty Years' War the village was sacked by the Swedes in 1633. 75 villagers died in connection with the battle of Nördlingen in 1634. Only the settlement of more than 100 religious refugees by Albrecht II , Margrave of Ansbach , brought life back to the village.

The water shortage resulting from the high location was eliminated in 1951 by the construction of a water pipe.

Auernheim was an independent municipality in the old district of Gunzenhausen with the districts Freihardt, Hagenhof, Schlittenhart, and Wieshof . On July 1, 1972, it was incorporated into Treuchtlingen as part of the municipal reform.
