The province of Bechar ( Arabic ولاية بشار, DMG Wilāyat Baššār , tamazight ⴰⴳⴻⵣⴷⵓ ⵏ ⴱⴻⵛⵛⴰⵔ Agezdu n Beccar ; also Baschar ) is a province ( wilaya ) in western Algeria . The capital of the province is Bechar .

The province lies on the Moroccan border and covers an area of ​​50,050 km².

With a population of around 230,000 people (as of the end of 2009) it is sparsely populated, the population density is around 4.6 inhabitants per square kilometer.

In December 2019, the southern part of the province was separated to create the independent province of Béni Abbès . The area decreased from 161,400 km² by 101,350 km² (62.8%) and the population of 279,851 inhabitants by 50,163 inhabitants (17.9%). The number of municipalities will decrease from 21 to 11.
