Beaumont is a city in the southeastern US state of Texas , United States , and the county seat of Jefferson County . Beaumont is located with Port Arthur and Orange in the Golden Triangle , an important industrial region on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico .
Economy / education
The city grew rapidly after the first oil wells were developed in early 1901. The main industries today are oil refineries, chemical factories, and paper mills. In earlier times, important branches of business, such as rice cultivation and wood and sawmills, lost their importance in the 20th century.
Beaumont is the seat of Lamar University . The city is conveniently located off Interstate 10 and there is a regional airport. The harbor ( Port Arthur ) is 17 miles away.

Beaumont is located in an area with a subtropical climate with mild winters and hot and humid summers. The region is a hurricane prone area. In September 2005 , Beaumont was badly damaged by Hurricane Rita .
