Bolgheri (wine)

The name Bolgheri DOC refers to Italian red , rosé and white wines from the Bolgheri district of the municipality of Castagneto Carducci in the province of Livorno , Tuscany . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1983 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

The denomination prescribes the following grape varieties for the most important types :

  • Bolgheri Bianco : Must contain 0–70% Vermentino, 0–40% Sauvignon and 0–40% Trebbiano Toscano . A maximum of 30% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - individually or together.
  • Bolgheri Rosso and Bolgheri Rosato : 0–100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 0–100% Merlot, 0–100% Cabernet Franc, 0–50% Syrah, 0–50% Sangiovese may be included. A maximum of 30% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - individually or together.
  • The following wines must contain at least 85% of the grape variety mentioned. A maximum of 15% other analogue grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.

Cultivation

Cultivation and vinification of these wines are only permitted in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci in the province of Livorno .

In 2016, 57,978 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced from 999 hectares of vineyards - including Sassicaia.
