history

The first sure mention of the village Boock comes from 1315 as in villa Buͤk . Adolph Friedrich Riedel printed the text as “in villa Buk”. In 1393 the governor of the Altmark Huner von Königsmarck enfeoffed the citizen of Salzwedel Hermes Gartz with income from his possessions, including zu Ritze vnd tho Buck, in the state of tho Soltwedel . Further mentions are 1608 Boeck , 1687 Boeck and finally 1804 Boock .

In the course of the separation , land consolidation took place around 1840 with a division of the common land to the previous beneficiaries. That led to an economic upswing. The population rose from 100 to over 200.

At the end of the village after Lohe there was still a windmill at the beginning of the 20th century.

The land reform in 1945 recorded: 29 properties under 100 hectares had a total of 336 hectares, three properties of the church had a total of 50 hectares, the community had two properties with a total of 3.7 hectares. In 1956 a type III agricultural production cooperative, the LPG "Freedom and Peace", was established.

Other mentions

The historian Peter P. Rohrlach explains: The older documents are difficult to separate from the mentions for books . The remark “hodie Bock” of the 17th century in the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 under the entry “Bodewald” does not concern Boock. As early as 1908, Georg Schmidt determined that the information in the Landbuch concerns Badel. Joachim Stephan came to the same conclusion in 2006.

Devil's corner

The Teufelswinkel parcel is about 1½ kilometers northeast of the village. Due to the deep, swampy valleys all around, it was previously difficult to access. There the residents of the area, who did not trust Christianity, are said to have worshiped the devil for a long time.

In 1843, Adalbert Kuhn passed on the legend Der Teufelswinkel bei Booke . An idol temple had stood here from ancient times; but actually it was called the Hammon hermitage, as did the little water that flows past called Hammey. Entzelt says that the name comes from the fact that the old Germans worshiped a god there, whom they called Hama magnum , who was actually Jupiter Hammonius or Jupiter cum Maja ; they also built a temple for him in Hamburg. Beckmann tells the story similarly from Kossebau's point of view .

prehistory

Urn shards and stone axes from the Stone and Bronze Ages have been found in the area. During the regulation of the Halmaygraben (also called the Zehrengraben) in the 1930s, a sword from the Bronze Age was found near Boock , which is now kept in the Osterburg district museum.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the community of Einwinkel was incorporated into Boock. As early as September 30, 1928, the Einwinkel manor was merged with the rural community of Einwinkel.

On 25 July 1952, the Municipality Boock was from the district Osterburg in the district Osterburg reclassified. On July 1, 1994 she came to the district of Stendal.

Until December 31, 2009 Boock was an independent municipality with the district Einwinkel and belonged to the now dissolved administrative community Seehausen (Altmark) .

The municipal councils of the communities Boock (on May 20, 2009), Bretsch (on June 30, 2009), Gagel (on January 12, 2009), Heiligenfelde (on January 21, 2009), Kossebau (on June 16, 2009) 2009), Losse (on January 23, 2009) and Lückstedt (on January 12, 2009) decided that their communities should be dissolved and merged into a new community with the name Altmärkische Höhe . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.
