Branko Ivanković (born October 31, 1968 in Zagreb , Croatia ) is a Croatian composer , conductor , musician , arranger and music producer . He is the younger twin brother of the ethnologist and folklorist Ivica Ivanković .
Life
After completing primary school and primary and secondary education at the Zagreb Music School Vatroslav Lisinski , Branko Ivanković studied composition at the Zagreb Music Academy . He learned the basics of the art of composing from Stanko Horvat , after which he attended classes from Marko Ruždjak and Frano Parać . He learned conducting in private lessons with Ino Perišić in Zagreb, then as a scholarship holder of the Lovro and Lilly Matačić Foundation at the former University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (today University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna), in the lessons of Uroš Lajovic and Günther Theuring . In 2010 he completed his bachelor's degree in composition at the Zagreb Academy of Music as a student of Frano Parać.
Together with his colleague Antun Tomislav Šaban and the violinist Božidar Ljubin, he initiated the reinstatement of the Zagreb Chamber Orchestra (at the Croatian Composers Society) in 1994 , with which he had several successful concerts .
As a composer, arranger and conductor he has worked with many amateur and professional folklore ensembles at home and abroad, including the Croatian folk dance ensemble LADO , the student cultural and art association "Ivan Goran Kovačić" from Zagreb, the Zagreb folk dance group of the Dr. Ivan Ivančan, the cultural and art associations »Jedinstvo« and »Brodosplit« from Split , the folklore ensemble »Matija Gubec«, the folklore troupe »Vuga« and the tambura band »Grofovi« from Karlovac , the tambura orchestra »Campanera« from Đakovo , the folklore ensemble »Štokavci« from Schachendorf in Burgenland , the women's choir »Jele« and the tambura orchestra »Cardinal Stepinac« from Vancouver , the Wiener Jeunesse choir , the mixed choir of the Croatian Radio , the Symphonic Wind Orchestra of the Croatian Army etc.
Between 2002 and 2005 he was the conductor of the mixed choir at the Zagreb Music School Vatroslav Lisinski , where he occasionally taught music theory .
From February 2007 to November 2010 he worked as a freelancer in the phono department of the musical documentation of the Croatian Radio , where he digitized phono material, edited music and processed data on authors and music interpreters for the entertainment and folk music editors . From October 2012 to the end of September 2016 he was the author and editor of the cycle »Amateur Music and Creation« of the 1st program of the Croatian Radio. Occasionally he works as a music producer for studio and concert recordings for the needs of audio and television programs and the production of permanent recordings for the Croatian Radio Phonotheque (e.g. the accordion orchestra "Ivan Goran Kovačić" from Zagreb, the tambura orchestra "Dragutin Domjanić «from Adamovec , the singing group» Arete «from Konjščina , the wind orchestra» Rozga «etc.).
A versatile musician - pianist , keyboardist , accordionist , bass guitarist and Tambura poker players as well as players of many traditional folk musical instruments like the bagpipes Dude, the bagpipe Gajda , woodwind Diple, the string instrument Tamburica samica, the Chordophons šargija, the coated shell-necked lute lijerica , the vessel flute ocarina flute Žveglica, the clarinet diplica and double-reed instrument sopila - is he active, especially in the various musical genres classical music and the entertainment and folk music. He is a member of the Croatian Association of Music Theorists, the Croatian Music Union and Matica hrvatska , he writes books on music and translates specialist literature .
