The Bulls (dt. The cops ; formerly Northern Bulls called, in conjunction with the main sponsor as Vodacom Bulls called) are a rugby union -Mannschaft in the South African capital Pretoria . She plays in the international super rugby league and has won three championship titles so far. The home games are played in the Loftus Versfeld Stadium .
history
The Bulls took part in the first Super 12 season in 1996, at that time under the name of the Northern Transvaal region. They achieved third place, but in the semifinals against the Auckland Blues they had no chance and lost 11:48. In the next season they could not build on the success of 1996 and ended up in eighth place. The following year, South Africa adopted the franchise system that had long been common in Australia and New Zealand. The association created four teams, the Bulls being one of them.
By 2005, the team failed to advance to the semi-finals and repeat the 1996 success. Since then, however, the Bulls have always managed to get to at least the round of the last four. In the last Super 12 championship in 2005 they failed at the Waratahs . With the Central Cheetahs and the Western Force , two more teams joined in 2006, making the tournament a Super 14. The Bulls failed again this year in the semifinals.
However, in 2007 they won their first title. The season began with a loss to the Sharks , but the team steadily improved and made it to the semifinals again. Among other things, a record win against the Queensland Reds succeeded in this season , who were beaten 92: 3. The Bulls defeated the Crusaders in the semifinals and moved into the final of the tournament for the first time, where they met the Sharks. This was also the first purely South African final duel in Super 12/14 history. The final developed into an extremely close game, with the Sharks leading with six points until shortly before the end. It was only in stoppage time that Bryan Habana made the decisive attempt that Derick Hougaard was able to raise to lead the Bulls to their first championship title in club history.
In 2009, the team secured the second title by beating the Chiefs 61:17 in the final, which was also the highest victory in a final in the Super 14. The Bulls were able to repeat this success the following year when they won the Stormers struck.
